I have a ruger service six that I am considering trading for a Chinese SKS in excellent condition with all goodies. I could use a few more rifles but that is my only wheelgun.  I love Russian guns in general ( have a vepr and a makarov)
What says you?

Blue or stainless? Barrel length? Some times the prices on early Rugers can get kinda stupid. If it's a snubby it's worth a bit more than a SKS.

What kind of SKS is it?

Its stainless with a 4" which I believe was the only length offered on the service 6.

Service six has fixed sights unlike the security six.

Sks is a Chinese , don't know factory or specifics

Keep your Ruger and save up for an SKS. Do some searching and you'll come across plenty of them.

ThaT Ruger will be a lot harder to replace than it will be to find another SKS.

Thanks for the advice guys.  I have enough coin to buy an SKS but I'd rather not dump more money into guns ATM.  Trying to keep the dollar value of my arsenal even

The Ruger is worth $350 give or take.  I just bought an early blued four inch for that much and considered it a good buy.  I don't know what the SKS market is like.  I wouldn't make the trade but I've never been a big SKS fan.

I've been carrying a 4 in. blued Service Six chambered in .357 Magnum off and on since the early 80's.  It always rides in my get-home-bag.  I modified the grip frame to Speed Six dimensions and run a Pachmyr "Compaq" grip.  It will be under the pillow when my casket is closed...
