I saw a Remington 700 in a local pawn shop recently. It was a .270 in some kind of composite stock. It has a dark green factory looking camo pattern on it, and it almost sounded like plastic. The action and barrel look good. They had it priced at $329.00 and I am considering it. I don't really hunt much, but there is nothing wrong with owning a .270, and if I get a chance to go after hogs it would do easily. It had a scope on it, but I don't remember what exactly- just that it didn't get me excited so I would change that. I don't remember the .270 being hard on barrel throats and hunting rifles usually don't get shot a lot unless it is a varmint caliber. Is there anything specific I should look for? I do remember seeing something about a trigger recall- I think. Any reason to not jump on it? I can compare prices on auction sites, but they sometimes don't really reflect real world prices. |

From what I can find it seems to be a package rifle from Gander Mountain or some other box store dealer. I may try to get it cheaper- that's the real fun with pawn shops. This is basically a deer rifle, and with deer season several months away I might get them to bargain. It's been a while since I managed to get a steal from one. I'm slipping- or they are looking at auction sites before doing a deal. It should be as accurate as any other Remington 700- more accurate than I am, and with the right load should anchor big pigs. |
