| Anyone ever have an FFL lose their Form 4 w/ tax stamp? |
|
Sorry to hear about the situation.
I bought an M11/9 from an acquaintance several years ago. I had been working out of state, and made the 10-hour drive in for the weekend to pick it up. He said he had taken the gun and approved paperwork out of the safe and put them on the coffee table so they would be right there when I arrived. And then his wife cleaned up the house... including what apparently looked like some junk mail on the coffee table. After searching an hour or two, I left and he continued. He called the next day and said he had finally found it after staying up until 5:00AM looking. I didn't ask where he had found it. If your dealer can't find it, and you are stuck with just a copy, I would demand a $200 refund. You paid for a $200 stamp, and you should expect to get it. If it was lost due to his negligence, he should man up and reimburse you. If nothing else, it might help him be a little more responsible in the future. |

I would get the certified copy, pick up my can and not go back. Maybe you can get him to throw in an extra muzzle brake or 2 to take care of your inconvenience.
If you are suggesting that your dealer give you a different 762-SDN-6 with an alternate SN, that would not be in your benefit. The ATF tracks all NFA paperwork by serial number and, as far as I know, the application process would start over at day 1 if you were to submit a "new" Form 4. On the other hand it typically takes around 2 - 3 weeks to get a certified copy of approved paperwork. |

Had this very same thing happen to me with my Lightning Link, Dealer called and said he had the stamp, drove 1.5 hours to pick it up, and in that time he managed to loose it. Had to wait another week and half to receive a certified copy without a stamp... He never did find it... But I still have the RLL. It was a PIA and I tell folks to avoid him due to this, but it all worked out in the end. |
