| I have a preban Uzi model A. Every once in a while I will get a round that jams between the feed ramp and the magazine. When this happens I notice it pushes the bullet into the case. While most of the time this causes a jam and I have to clear it I did notice that one of these bullets that had gotten pushed into the case must have fired because I found an ejected case that was split down the side. This can't be safe. Would polishing the feed ramp help? The magazines I have are all metal and welded on the seams. They seem to be quality. Has anyone ever experienced this problem before? I thought I would ask here before I brought it to a gunsmith. This was a rather expensive gun and I would like to get it functioning properly |

The one on the front of the barrel? I got it pretty tight with my hand as tight as I could. I usually take the barrel out to clean the gun. Nothing seems loose. Even tho the gun is a pre ban when I got it a year ago from my uncle it had never been shot. It is basically a new gun
I can post some pics if it will help. How tight should the barrel nut be? Is hand tight good? It doesn't seem loose and all the teeth are on the nut |

The barrel nut just needs to be tight, not to the point where your eyes bug out tightening it.
First step is to try a better magazine. Some of the mags floating around are after market and quality is suspect. Most military surplus Uzi mags are good unless they're just really beat up. Second step is to clean the gun really well and lubricate it. Disassemble and clean the magazines. Make sure your uncle is certain he didn't buy it from another individual. It may look unused but too many guns that have been in other hands have had things done to them. DON'T start "shooting blind" and start "polishing" or altering things unless you KNOW for a hard fact what the problem is. That's how hoping to hit on the fix winds up ruining a gun. Unless you figure out for sure what's wrong, let a gunsmith look at it. |
| Good point. I'm pretty sure it was unfired he bought it new in the box a long time ago. I did try to put a little grease on the feed ramp just a slight coat of slip 2000. All the mags I have are mil sup I also have the 2 new ones that it shipped with (they were in the wrapper when I got it) this gun is really fun to shoot. I would love to get it working properly I might be better off taking it to a gunsmith. |

WARNING....................
Installing or even having in your possession a short barrel for your UZI is a Federal CRIME. Minimum legal length of a rifle barrel is 16 inches. Anything less than that and it's a crime to have it AND the gun, whether the barrel is on the gun or not, UNLESS the gun is licensed as an "SBR" or Short Barreled Rifle. You can legally do this in many states that allow it, BUT you have to get the license from the ATF, and that requires a lot of paperwork. I'm not "up" on all the details, but cost for the license may be $200. In short, store the barrel somewhere else than at where the gun is kept, until you figure all this out. No BS, this is a Federal FELONY crime. As to the jamming problem, have you tried full power 124 grain 9mm ammo? Often feed problems are caused by lighter bullets, bullets with hollow points (the UZI was designed for round nose FMJ), or under powered ammo. |

That's glaringly obvious, because it's not a license and, no "license" is required. You pay a one time tax on the transfer of each item in your possession. The tax is currently $200 for machine guns, suppressors, short-barreled rifles/shotguns, and destructive devices. |
