Sadly, they're hard to find due to CZ moving to another model, the 455. Gun Broker might be your best bet there. If not a CZ, then the Marlin rimfires are what I would go with. Supurb accuracy with NO mods needed. Their Model 60 is a timeless piece for a semi, running around $225-250. My .o2 |
| I have the savage MkII TR and it is a great rifle. I also have a CZ 452 and the same can be said about it. I get the same results from the 2 gun from an accuracy standpoint. depends on what you wish to do with it. If it's benchrest only, I would go with the savage. If you plan on carrying it some I'd go with the CZ. I like the wood stock on the CZ too but that's a personal decision. I have heard some not so flattering things about the marlin since they were bought out. I haven't verified that myself but a surprising number of people have warned against them so do your research. If you like the savage, go for it, you will not be disappointed. Mine is great. |
| I have 3 Savage Mark IIs and a friend of mine has a CZ 452, which I have shot some as well. LIke the guy before me said, they are both great guns. I like the Savage better because it a better value. It is just a accurate as the CZ, but less expensive. The CZ is very nice though as well and I like the wood stocks that come with. |

Mark II is great, but if you go that route, buy the cheapest one, and go to Boyd's stocks (or Stocky's stocks) and do your own stock upgrade. Also, DIP Products bottom metal is a good thing for Savage rimfires. The Savage is a highly accurate rifle. However, all of that being said, and because you have it in your price range, I would not blink at the CZ. The CZ gives you a normal action (in size/dimensions), whereas the Savage makes everything smaller for the obviously smaller round.
Because it is a .22, and because I want it to be somewhat similar to my other bolt guns in feel/function, and because it will still be stupidly accurate, I would go with the CZ. |
