Hey all I am in need of some help.. I am a gunsmithing student at trinidad and we need a Mauser 98 action that is mil spec not sportsterd. And our school doesn't carry them any more. And it seems like a few of us might need them. I'm not apposed to buying a full rifle and chopping it down but if I can get just the action that would be amazing!
I was told to call century arms, samco, or Mitchell but gotta wait to see on Monday. Anyone have any for sale or any ideas on who else to call to track them down? Thanks! |

Samco lists a few generally with barrels but may have actions. I would also give Sarco a call and tell them what you want and why. RGuns has some German k98 barreled actions listed, too. FYI around where I live actions usually go in the $250 range, but complete guns can usually be found for less $200 and top out around $300 for non-collector stuff....and then you can sell the extra parts off to help fund things. If your Instructors say it's OK you should take a look at Japanese Arisaka. The 6.5s can make a nice trim sporter and need all of the same things done to it as a '98 mauser. I have one that was sporterized and rechambered to a 6.5mm/ .257roberts wildcat. IMHO get one with a barrel so you can see what it takes to get a 60yo-100yo barrel off of an action.

Yugoslavian M48 is the way to go. They are going for under $200 and most I seen are in almost unissued condition. A local shop ahve 2 or 3 of them in the rack, seen them today. IM me and I will give you their contact info. Be advised the Yugo M48 and 24/47's have a shorter action than a standard k98. |

yup! I got mine for $89 from the now defunct FAC. There were some slight storage dings and a ton of cosmoline, but were unfired and 100% bluing when I bought them.....they were rated as only "VG". One did have a cracked/ repaired HG but must have been done at the arsenal because it to looked unfired.
