Well all of the semi auto rifles have hit the roof price wise, so I'm thinking about buying a Mauser (probably a 98).
What is a decent shooter going to cost me & where should I start to look? |

I know they are over priced, but I always wanted a mitchells mauser.

Looks like samco global has yugo 24/47s and swede m38s in stock. JGsales shows m24/47s. I would call them to make sure though.
There are several mausers in the Curio & Relic section of the EE right now. Everything from German, Czech, to Yugos |
| Personally I like the Yugo M48 series...the German Mausers are ok, but the Yugo's in general are in much better shape. These things are built almost like a fine sporter, with butter smmoth actions and very good barrels. With Yugo surplus 196 grain ammo mine will shoot 1 1/2 on a good day at 100. Commercial ammo shoots well too, but the sights are registered for the heavier bullets...190 grain plus; remember that. |

'cause they are beautifully done and you can shoot them without guilt. Why would you feel guilty for shooting a yugo mauser that hasn't been refinished, but instead is original? Some people feel that restoring an old relic draws away from it's historic value. There are alot of poorly customized (bubba'd) Mausers out there. Another intersting observation is SKS and Mini-14 enthusiasts who hate seeing used rifles with crappy aftermarket stocks.. |

Have looked at a few at gun shows, they have been redone to the point they look like they just came out of the factory. I admit they are way over priced but if I had the money I would buy one. |

Mitchells is notorious for forging stamp marks. I wouldn't buy from those frauds under any circumstance. I have heard that as well. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. If you want a beautifull display piece, go with mitchells. If you want authentic, go somewhere else. Like I said, if I were to end up with a mauser it would be an M48 yugo, and I would probably buy a shooter. |
