Here's a question that I ask my self all the time and my wife always has her thoughts on this matter(never good). How many mags does one need? I use to put 1000's of rounds threw my AR's but as of late the round count has really gone down due to the price of ammo. So do I really need 45 30 round mags and 35 20 round mags? My shooting has seriously changed over the years due to cost and my retirement and the good old health care bull shit.

With you standing 5 feet away, and them stacked as if the ammunition were parallel to the ground, and you are looking at the American flag at the top of a 30 foot flag pole.
Can you see the flag? No, your good. Yes, buy more. I'm telling you now, (AR) mags are as cheep as they will ever be, and there is a ban coming like a freight train. Mags are a (much) better investment than gold right now. |

Prior to the ban here in California I bought more than 100 high-cap magazines for the AR, FAL, M1 carbine and M1A and pistols.
I done good and haven't felt bad for not buying more ... of course I was buying the stores out of every functional mil-spec magazine they had. I bought prior to the panic so there were deep stocks at the military surplus stores I visited around Camp Pendelton and Fort Irwin. The California ban was written so that a loop hole was discovered that allowed us to repair our magazines up to and including replacing all parts of the magazine so my preparations weren't as needed as I thought they would be but who knows what the federal ban is going to be like. One think I will point out is that magazines don't go bad. |

I have 300 AR mags. 200 30 rounders and 100 20 rounders.
However, for the last 15 years I have only use one 20 round magazine for the range. So the answer is I only need one magazine. However, it is like having a big titty woman. All you need is one mouthful but everything over that is wealth. |

I have a lot of gear. And mags are just part of the stuff.
Bags, holsters, lights, knives, mag holsters, loaders, screw drivers and pliers, misc screws and pins, ammo pouches, ammo cans, racks, safe's, rifle cases, shooting glasses, ear protections. All of this stuff is just part of the enjoyment with firearms. When I had my very first handgun, I used a backpack to carry it to the range. Had the gun, 2 mags, hard case, eyes and ears. Bought ammo at the range. So since evolving from that, you have lots of equipment for the range, hunting, self defense, ect. I think 7-10 per handgun, and 20 min for rifles. Have only 1 AR and 1 AK at the moment. But friends have them, neighbor has AR, other family have AR's. And never know when someone needs an extra mag, or they forget their pack of mags when headed to the range. Or in a weird kind of end of the world, have people with plenty of back up quality mags they will be able to use in case. My house would be the centralized location for everyone to meet and head out from. So they can carry all of my shit. |
