Beyond the aesthetics, those Axiom stocks are ok.  Not junk, not great either.

I have a Howa 1500 (.308) in a Axiom stock that I like well enough.  Love the Howa barreled action, and I'm just ok with the stock.

I traded an AK for the Howa and definitely feel good about it.

Ya, i really dont care how it looks, as long as it works.  its compact, light and adjustable.

Ive heard this is the 2nd generation of the axiom stock and its better than the previous...

not really my thing, but if the price was right I'd pick one up, I like bolt action .308s enough to give it a shot.

if had a bunch of conventional stocked .308s, I'd grab one.

That is the 2nd gen stock.  There is a cheek riser available for the stock and you'll definitely want it.

Mine is a 1st gen and while I'm not in love with it, I don't hate it either.

I got mine in trade and was more interested in the Howa barreled action than the stock.  I may replace the stock one day but for now it can stay.

cool.

i might give one a whirl.  i like the plain sps tactical also, but i thought this would be a good addition to the collection and i do not have a .308 bolt gun...

Looks like an abortion, or something Hollyweird dreamed up for the next Jurassic Park movie.
700's are fine rifles with the stock stock (yuck yuck), no need to turn them into something they ain't.

I can't wrap my head around that stock.

All I can think about is nerf guns or super-soakers.

I'd rather buy a good chassis or stock with an adjustable cheek piece for the 700.

Why not?  Most factory stocks are nearly worthless, so see if you like it & if not go with another stock you like.  It seems like an interesting concept and might work well if you're familiar with military pattern firearms and want to try a bolt action rifle.

The cheek weld looks like it would be miserable in stock configuration. I can just see that thing flexing a lot under recoil, which isn't going to be conducive to good accuracy.

its tacticool.  not quite tier 1 tho.

I can't understand why more bolt guns don't come with pistol grip stocks. Even before I inured my firing hand wrist I found them to be superior to "old-fashioned" stocks. I say go for it.

Agreed.

I fondled the normal stock tactical. 308 today.  I like it, but something keeps pulling me back to the gun I posted the pic of.  I did find that blackhawk makes a cheek piece 4 that stock..

I would do so. I have a 20" SPS tactical in .308 with the houge stock everyone hates. I admit it does have a lot of forearm flex but its a very comfortable stock. The regular SPS syn stock is kind of crappy IMO, if i went that route I would look for an aftermarket stock as funds permitted.

The pistol grip A2 stock works just fine for me on a AR. Not "just fine" I really like it and it works very well for me.
I have tried "tacticool" stocks on various shotguns, sks and other rifles and was not at all pleased with them. It is as if I can't work out how I am supposed
to hold them or something. I greatly prefer standard shotgun stocks and normal rifle stocks.

Not exactly sure why I have trouble shooting these. Things that occur to me is that the greater recoil of the shotgun and heavier than 5.56 centerfires
are not compatible with the pistol grip. Another possibility is that the stocks themselves are not designed correctly as to size, shape, cheekweld and so forth.
Might be also that I am a grumpy old fart

Whatever the reason I generally don't shoot the new stocks as well as the older traditional stuff.

But then-that's me ,not necessarily you.
I also notice you only get a 20" barrel, giving up a bit of speed with that aren't you?

Yes.

This will be a bench shooting and a throw in the truck during deer season gun.  Hence why i want it compact.

Im not against the traditional stocks, ive found i like carrying and shooting pistol grips much better, i seem to have much more control.

The Axiom is a piece of shit. If you want a pistol grip, a chassis system is really the only viable option, but they arent cheap.
