I posted in the optics section without much of a response.

I would like something under 8X. I was looking at the Bushnell Trophy 1.5 -6, Nikon Monarch 2-8, and Leupold VX-R 2-7. The VX-R is a little out of my price range, but I do like the illuminated reticle.

Any suggestions or other ideas would be appreciated. I am open to other options I plan on using the gun for target shooting, plinking, and groundhog/raccoon hunting around and in some barns.

My brother uses the 1.75 X 6 X 32 Leupold on his 77/357. He has an older 1.75 X 6 X 36 that he is thinking about swiching too. Isn't the 2X7X33 rifleman about $189?

Redfield Revolution 2-7x33.  Lifetime Warranty, clear glass, finger adjustable windage and elevation, made in Oregon by Leupold, priced around $150.

Or the new line of Nikon Prostaffs in 2-7x around $160

Since it sounds like you are on a budget I was thinking both of these as well!

The Weaver 1-3 would be about perfect on that gun.

Make it three!  Have the Nikon.  VERY nice scope.

I'd probably go with a straight 4x or 6x.  Not a big fan of variables.  100 yards is probably as far as most will go with one of these.  Not sure a variable really adds much.

Now that I think about it, he may be right.  Maybe a Weaver K2.5?  I had one of these a while back and it was nice and clear.
