I spotted one buried in the corner of a shop a few months ago and finally asked about it the other day. Its a magnum twelve made in Japan with what looked like a 26 inch barrel with screw in choke tubes, vent rib with bead sight. The bluing is in descent shape.

The worst part of this gun is the wood. The forearm is the original wood painted black with a rough texture applied and the buttstock is a synthetic Bell and Carlson's. I couldn't see if the forearm was cracked because of the paint and texture that was applied but there was a chip missing on the left side towards the top were it meets the receiver.

Asking price is 450.00, I would feel more comfortable at 375 or 400. What does the all knowing hive think?

I've not seen one go for more than $500 - and that was in excellent shape.    I'd negotiate down to $350 and see where it goes.

IMHO most guns that have signs of abuse and were patched together with non-standard aftermarket parts are not worth more than $200-$250 because they usually end up being money pits.  Someone got rid of it for a reason.  now if it was a well used and surface worn but obviously cared for.... that is a different story.  what you described sounds like a hastily disguised turd.  I would pass.  YMMV

$450 is way too high.  If we get a Japan model in that is mint and original it will only bring around $500.  For one that rough, I would try to be around $300 or so.
