I currently own a Bulgarian Arsenal SLR-95 under-fold and an AR-15.  I am planning on going into the Army in the Fall of next year.  I am torn between buying an Aimpoint Pro or doing a 223 or 545 Saiga conversion.  I currently run a Trijicon ACOG TA31 (M150) but don't know if I should buy something that is non-magnified so that I have an optic available for any scenarios that I might face.  I really would like to do a Saiga conversion but is it worth it if I already have an AK variant.

SLR95 and AR15 (was running an EOTech prior to the ACOG)

If your looking for an optic "for any situation" then you might look into a holographic sight and a magnifier. I have several guns but when it's "go time" I know can only take one with me. But theyre all my favorites.

basically is it worth doing a 223 or 545 saiga conversion or should i buy something like a non magnified optic to have so im not constantly at 4x?  The reason i say this is because i talked to a few of my friends who have deployed and they said that they almost exclusively used a non magnified optic even though they all carried their ACOGs and i rather spend money on something practical first so if anyone has experience with this i would love the input because i am kinda torn between the two.

What army you joining? The US one provides the guns and optics for you, no need to buy your own.

Keep the ACOG.  It should be able to handle any situation the shooting range throws at you.  I do pretty well with mine at the close quarters qualification ranges here in the Army world.  Save your money and focus on getting ready for enlistment.

don't sell what you currently have.  As for getting used to the aimpoint...don't worry about it.  It's put the dot on the target and pull the trigger.  You still have to know you holds for distances, but you'll get plenty of practice with that.  If you're not going infantry you might be qualing with iron sights.  Most of the support guys I know shot irons in basic.
