I am thinking about getting my Dad a new firearm. What do you think I should get? He isn't into bolt actions but more antique type firearms and or modern semi auto type stuff or shotguns. I am thinking about getting him either a shotgun or some type of handgun. Any suggestions? He is 55 years old going on too 56 and he lives out west.

Being about that age myself and liking antique firearms I would suggest Uberti. They have just about anything a 55 year old would want in either pistol or hand gun.

If you are looking for something newer an AR never hurts. Or a .22. A dedicated .22 on a A4 lower with a red dot, sweet.

How about blending the old with the new? A Ruger Vaquero is sweet.

A Winchester 73 in 45 Colt is in a lot of peoples "want to have" list.
