An army buddy and I are about to embark on another deployment to Afghanistan here soon as aviation door gunners. We've been training a lot with air gunnery and have had a lot of issues with our lube drying. We are wondering what would be the best weapons lube for machine guns (308 cal) for aviation travel?

I use wheel bearing grease on my M1A.  Doesn't need to be slopped on, and stays on even in weather.  Mind you, I'm moving ALOT slower than you are, and not sure how bug splatter on the gun will complicate things

M-Pro 7? Supposed to be the be-all-end-all in what will not evaporate/gum up.

Break Free.  You should have plenty of access to it.

TW25B grease. Keeps a thin layer, does burn, non toxic, works great! Or...... use heavy viscosity synthetic Motor oil (that would be cheaper).

Are you kidding?  I would rather use my shit than CLP

See if you guys can get some LSA (used on 50's and Mk19's) from the armory, or go to a automotive supply store and pick up a tube of Moly disulfide grease.  It will last you a while.

I have recently become a convert to Slip 2000 EWL.  It seems not to evaporate like CLP.  I hope others who have more experience with it chime in since I have only had mine for about two months and have only cleaned 7 guns with it so far.

Get the aviation lube used on M3P, if your a door gunner you should know what it is.

Its expensive as hell to buy as a civie but the mil has it kicking around and your maint sq should be able to get it.

M-Pro 7 is the shit! I bought a bottle of it to try out not really knowing about how good it is, but I soon found out...no drying up, no evaporating even after a ton of shooting.
