I let my old thread die on accident- here is a link to the archived thread with detailed pics of the entire gun: http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=2&t=315337
Here is the finished*** project.

***We may do some scrimshaw on the grips. So far undecided.

So your mom did that engraving?  Looks great.  If she needs a second gun to practice on, I can send her one.

Damn! Your Mother did some fine work...... what the chance that I can get her to do that on a Stainless Ruger New Model Vaquero in .357 Magnum?

I remember reading your posts from start to finish.

Once again....... Your Mother can really do some fine work.

Thanks for the compliments all.

Mama did everything except the grips. Those were done by nutmeg sports.

I'm a little frustrated because we paid 475 bucks for the grips and specified 1 piece but they gave us 2 piece instead. Not really a huge deal, the gun looks fantastic either way.

We were originally planning on doing a don't tread on my type of emblem on the grips using scrimshaw, but it is going to be more difficult to do that with the screw in the middle.

I was thinking doing this design:

on the back lower portion (small obviously) of one or both of the grips.

Not my taste in firearms at all but I can still appreciate and admire the quality of work and the beauty of the final product. Well done!

Personally I'd leave the grips alone but if you feel the need to mess with them, I would do something very subtle that won't effect the feel of the gun in your hand.

Excellent work!  Only thing I would add would be blue colored screws like the customised Colts have from Bowen, Cylinder Slide, etc. I think that would really set it off.  Personally I would leave the grips alone or maybe do some scroll work on them like whats on the barrel.  Either way it is a very nice job.  I never get tired of looking at hand engraved guns.
