so my friend got this enfield at a gunshow recently for $150, and we are having trouble identifying info about it. anyone know? were looking for what type it is, about when it was made, etc. i dont have the S/N now, but ill get it.

its .303, and is topped with a 4X (i think) scope.

he also wants a bipod for it, what are his options?

thanks!

Damn...

There should be a stamp underneath the bolt handle that will give you a bit more info.

From what I can tell it's a sporterized No. 1 Mk. 3*. It's not terribly done, looks like they tried to keep a pseudo-military look to it. I cannot tell the year from looking at it, you should be able to find that on the rifle (under that paint).

If the bore's good I'd say $150 is fair. It's certainly not a collector's piece, but it will make a good practical rifle.

Mount a QD swivel and stick a Harris on there.

Plus 1.  SMLE, No I MkIII or III* .303in.  Maker mark should be on the receiver under the bolt knob.

do not be surprised if it strings vertically pretty badly due to the forend being chopped.

Someone modified it to look like a British sniper rifle (4t.)  But, I think they used the wrong scope mounts, and  too early of a model SMLE.

The crest, initials, and year will tell you when it was made.  And if the year is late enough then it might be an Ishy.

Based on experience I have to say check the magazine spring.  I bought an Ishy with a broken mag spring.  They are easy enough to find and replace.

Yup.

SMLE, though what country/year it's from is undeterminable without removing paint.

Check the metal strap, under the bolt knob (both sides).

It's definitely someone's attempt to make it look like a British L42A1 sniper rifle, but it is not going to fool most people...

thanks guys!

yeah, he didnt get it for collecting, its for practical use. and it fired great.

the magazine spring does infact feel rather shitty, and hes probably going to get a replacement, as well as a few more magazines.

the stamp on the side says that it is a NO1 MK3, made in India.

how would he go about mounting a sling swivel on there for a bipod?
