Looking to replace the factory trigger and would like some input on a replacement.
I am going to be using it for target shooting / hunting so I would like to keep the safety, but would like to have it light and adjustable. I have seen Timney, Jard, Shilen, and Jewel. The Jewel is about $100 more than the rest, but is it that much better than the others. What do you use and do you like it? Pros and cons. mfn |

I recently got a new model Remington 700. It came with the X-mark (or, whatever it's called) trigger.
It broke at 3.5 pounds out of the box. I "adjusted" it according to the instructions that came with the rifle. It got a little bit lighter –– around 3.0 pounds –– after a lot of movement on the adjustment screw. I backed the screw off more and all I got for the effort was VERY inconsistent pull weights, varying from 3.0 to 4.5 pounds. Never the same twice. I think the factory trigger at 3.0 pounds would make a good hunting rifle. The break was crisp (when it was consistent). But, for a target rifle it didn't cut the mustard. So, I bought a Jewell 1.0 pound trigger from Brownells. A most excellent trigger!!!!! Installed in about 20 minutes and broke clean at exactly 16 ounces, every time, time after time. Too light for hunting, but it works great for 1000 yard shooting. I am very happy with it. After paying half again as much for Geissele triggers for my ARs, I didn't find the jewell trigger expensive for what it is –– which is PERFECT. |

I have adjusted the stock trigger and, yes, it was inconsistant. Not bad, but still not what I want to keep messin with. I have also heard pretty good things about Rifle Basix.
I'm going to be waiting a few weeks for my barrel to even arrive, so I will mull everything over (the Jewel is leading the list so far) mfn |
| I don't trust the 700 triggers. They have a history of going off when moved off safe, if the trigger had been pulled when the safety was on. I switched to the Jewel with the safety inside the trigger guard. It's very easy to use, especially if you're used to a Garand. |

I put a Jewell on my 700 in 30-06, the model with the attached safety lever. Had to use the dremel just a little to remove some wood in the stock - no problem at all, and invisible since it was on a hidden surface. As for performance, the only word to describe the Jewell is elegant. Crisp and clean as an autumn morning. I will never use another trigger. |
