I know that there are several versions of the venerable k98k available from several other places besides Germany.

But I'm looking for a hunting rifle that has been drilled and tapped, either modern production or an already sporterized k98k.

Where might I find such a rifle?

Go to gunbroker.com and search for "sporterized."

You can find them at just about any gunshow or pawn shop if you look for a while. These things were
sporterized by the thousands in the 50's and 60's when they were dirt cheap and plentiful. Nowdays they are just
floating around and being sold ftf or traded in to local gun dealers.

The German 98k will be the most common sporterized Mauser, and finding good one should not be too hard.
They may or may not be in 8mm, since alot were converted to other calibers. My uncle has one in 6mm Remington.
You should be able to find a good sporterized Mauser 98k for around 150-200 bucks. Don't pay much more than that, and
for the love of god, DO NOT MESS WITH AN ORIGINAL RIFLE!!!!!!

Also, a Ruger M-77 is essentially a new made Mauser 98 action. My dad's Ruger M77 bolt would actually fit into a 98k, but would not lock closed since the action is longer.
This may be more what you are looking for.

Thank you.

And no I would not mess with an original Mauser, if I wanted to do that, I would have done it to mine already.

As for Gunbroker and finding sporterized ones, still in 8mm, I've seen two for sale, one was $300 and the other was $550

The remington 700 classic was produced in 8mm mauser.  Nice rifles if you can find one.

Shouldn't be impossible to get a long action Savage .30-06 rifle rebarreled to 8mm Mauser.

ETA - You'll need to reload or use European made ammo, American ammo is on the weak side, just in case it's fired in an older .318 bore rifle instead of a .323 bore.
