I was at a local show this weekend looking around.

I came upon a table with one of the Romanian 54c Dragunov sitting there. I have been half interested in them so I grabbed the tag to check the price which was $900. No one was around and the person working the table walked up.

The short conversation:

Them: "that is a real Dragunov.
Me: "for $900?" (chuckling)
Them: "it sure is"
Me "real Dragunovs are way more than $900 and originally came from Russia"
Them: "It is real, its from Romania then goes to Russia then gets shipped to the U.S."
Me: "that it isn't a true Dragunov" (again chuckling as I walked off)

I could hear the person mumbling obscenities.

On a different note everything is down in price now. AR's, AK's, ammo and reloading supplies. Better yet these items were available in quanity. There were the usual WTF prices people always have but overall everything seemed lower than what it was 2 months ago.

Most gunshow dealers add a premium to their firearms for the tall tales they sell with the firearm.  Its kinda like an extended warranty, but only the fish story version.

Part of the reason I have quit going to gunshows is because I dislike the condescension and the insults to my intelligence I have to put up with by the majority of the dealers.

Sounds like more of the same...

I like to go and people watch, maybe take $100 and see what I can get.  But on the whole, it's usually a pretty dismal experience.  About the only good scores are you can find some killer deals on used single shot 12 gauges; helped a buddy pick up one for $65 last summer that with some TLC he turned into a nice HD shotgun until he can afford a pump.

The next dealer who glares at me for pulling out a credit card will get a boot to the throat. I'm sick of those assholes whining about accepting CCs. Do you want to make a sale or not? Then shut the fuck up unless it's to say "Thanks for your business."!

They act like I'm stealing medicine from little Timmy's mouth. Sorry, but I don't walk around with $1000 in cash in my pocket. I'm much more likely to buy something if they accept cards, and don't whine about it.

My comment isn't directed to you but to this general theme in gunshow threads.  I volunteer to work a considerable number of gunshows with a statewide gun group.  We put on educational displays mostly around machine guns and NFA.  I'm always surprised at the condescension and insults that come back the other way also.  I think there's a certain % of gun people that like to show their 'superior gun knowledge' by actively looking for ways to rip on others (and this goes both ways at the shows).

At a recent show I had a 1919a6 on display.  A guy came up with his buddies pointing and smirking at the gun.  I went up to say hi and the jackass started spouting about how he loves when people display military guns with non-military dress up accessories on them.  I guess he'd only seen a 1919a4 before.  So instead of asking about the gun before spouting off, he jumped on the opportunity to show his buddies how 'smart' he was.  Just one of many stories.

Food for thought,

Matt

Make an uninformed decision, your going to lose big.

I only go to gunshows now for the private sales. The private sellers are more open to haggling.

Can't be any worse than working the other side of the table, IMO. Always some boob giving the "I can get it $400 cheaper two aisles over" to a dealer.

Plenty of idiocy on both sides of the table, IMO.

If I can get it $400 cheaper two isles over, I've already done bought it.

What's the point of talking to the other guy at that point?

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm just agreeing that its idiocy.

As for the part in red: I cannot STAND assbags like that.
You're right, of course. There are plenty of goofballs to be found no matter which side of the tables you care to look, sad to say.

I assume their logic is to beat a dealer down on pricing? Funniest thing *I* ever saw at a gunshow was when some young Fudd pulled that line on the gun shop owner & I happened to be standing there. Owner replied to the I can get it $X cheaper across the hall by saying, "Then I suggest you go buy it then!"

Ironically, the young Fudd ended up buying it from us, proving he was a full of shit as a Christmas turkey. But, to be fair, many of us have pulled this line while car/truck shopping, IMO.

I love when people say "I saw it in SGN for $XX.XX from XYZ Inc.".  I tell them to call and order it from XYZ Inc. and give me a call when they need a transfer.
