who uses bore guides to clean a rifle?
I read somthing from a gun writer that went like "its better to not clean a rifle then to do it wthout a bore guide."
what do you guys use? is it worth it?

some guy was telling me he used one and its plastic. bought it for $35 online.....

im about to buy a new browning a-bolt in .30-06 and i would like to treat it right.

so yay or nay on bore guides?

I don't use them.

I use them.  AR's & H&K's are a lot easier to clean with a bore guide and will keep cleaner out of the actions of bolt guns.  If you're cleaning an M1A or a Garand, I  consider them necessary.  You can find them a lot cheaper than $35.00 too.

I use one for my ARs.  I bought it to help prevent wear, but now use it because I think it makes cleaning easier.  Now I need one for the HKs.

95% of the time I just use a boresnake

the other 5% of the time I just clean from the chamber side....and if that's not possible I'm just really really freaking careful

Along these lines, which brand and model of bore guide is preferred for the AR ?

I use boresnakes, and USGI cleaning steel rods.

A boreguide is certainly a nice to have for an M1 Garand where you have to clean from the muzzle end.  For a bolt gun, or an AR where you can clean from the chamber, I don't see the need.
