Ok, so I picked up a .30-06 last spring, and since I never got to go hunting, I never properly sighted it in . Which I now feel the need to do, and urgently. I have a cheap rifle rest, the one I picked up for my .22LR, but it bounces around when I try to use it for the .30-06.
So, what's the best way to sight it in? I can't put my shoulder to the rifle rest, the back of it's a squared-off chunk of steel, it felt like I nearly broke my shoulder. I cannot afford to go and buy a new rifle rest. Should I just strap the rifle down and use some sandbags, or is there a better method? |

Basically because I'd rather take the human factor out of the equation when I sight in the rifle, so that it's the only factor left when it's time to shoot Bambi. Your method is sound! Bring it in to where you want it off the bags so you know what the 2 of you can really do (you and rifle). Then shift to hunting positions and see what to expect and if there is any sight change needed. |
