I want to be able to carry a shotgun to & fro my car discretely.  Sometimes, I have street parking.  Mostly, I would hate for a neighbor to get to thinking that it would be worth the risk to break into my trunk to look for a gun.  I am almost thinking about getting one to just leaver in there all the time...like a used pump, but I might prefer to have one that comes in & out w/ me alot.

I don't have a folding stock nor do I want one.  The gun is 38.5" OAL, so it's not like I can use a duffle bag or whatever.

I tried looking into guitar cases, but they are either really cheap & crappy & can't hold weight of a gun well, or they are really expensive.  Plus, that is kind of big.

Any other ideas?

Surveyor’s  bag, it will fit any rifle up to and including a Barret 50 Cal.

Surveyor's bag would hold a transem and tri pod I guess?

Maybe golf bag, but that is probably too long & bulky.  Plus I would have to get some clubs.

Gold if a waste of perfectly good rifle range

Baseball bats are up to 34", bags are usually only 34"  Typically a M4'gry w/ stock collapsed will fit in there, but not the shotty.

Lacrosse stick case.  I walked out to my parking lot with one in a lacrosse case and by around a dozen cops that were using my buildings parking lot for a high risk warrant service a few blocks away.  I waved and said hello and be safe as I put my lacrosse stick in the car.  If any had a clue they sure showed no indication.

found THIS thread

That LaCross bag is perfect in terms of length & its shape, as long as you dont have a vertical fore grip.

get this...black...it looks musicianish..unless your in the gun community...also a gigbag could work...but do note on that site the MANY gigbag that are rectangular like the voodoo @ SMG....I would (and did) get the voodoo

I've used my gigbag at times which my Scout M1A just fits in and my CX4 and former POF AR did too, but I play guitar.
Neighbors have seen me carrying it on mutiple occasions and know I play. I'm sure your neighbors will ask you sometime how long you've been playing if you talk to them. Mostly I just carry my rifles in regular black discreet cases and try to pick the best, no one outside, time to load up. There's only so much you can do and hopefully you don't live in a total shitbag neighborhood. Or consider moving. All you have to do is watch the news to know who does the most crime and will likely be interested in what you have.

I have one M1A in WRBSS's discreet case and it's a well made case I've had for years.

Got a Lacross stick bag at Dick's Sporting Goods for $25.  Fits great for non pistol grip type firearm.  Even has a couple pockets on it.  by DeBeer.

I vote for almost none of these ideas.

You're worried about theft, and not just not freaking out the neighbors.  Sporting equipment, and musical instruments are still stolen.  AT least the higher end stuff when it comes to sporting good.  A bat bag would be best since, it's just a cheap softball bat right?  Or if those are all too short, the bag that those cheap folding chairs come in would probably work. Get one for like ten bucks at Big 5, K-Mart, whatever.

Interesting thing about the toolbox.  The one time I've had a house burgled it was when I was a kid.  We were moving and still had most stuff boxed up.  They took my dad's tools, but not his rifle.

Tools are kinda easy to pawn in most places too.

In the house, my firearms go in a safe.

Edit to add:  Presumably, you are looking for something discrete to move your firearms from one location to another.  Concealment equals concealment, not security.  In a past life, I spent a lot of time investigating break-ins in homes and cars.  As crafty as most folks think they may be, thieves are often craftier or luckier.  Whatever the case, I've dealt with vehicle break-ins where they have stolen gym bags full of dirty leotards.  I seriously doubt they are going to arbitrarily overlook a lacrosse bag in your trunk.   If you are looking for security, buy a quality safe and bolt it to the floor and wall.

Just my .02.  Good luck on your search.

Carried a .44 Marlin levergun to/from the car in a camp chair bag many times, it just fits. Toss in a towel to help disguise the shape a little.

Who breaks into a car to steal a $10 camp chair? I wasn't leaving the gun in the car for any length of time anyways.

I walked out of my apartment the other day with a tac force case with my AR in it.  normaly I see no one in the halls at 6:45am, but that day I meet some gal and she looks at the big black case and says "guitar" and i look back and say "somehting like that" and keep on walking.

I hate apartments. When I come home from shooting  I use these shopping carts down in our secured garage to move the stuff back upstairs. So far no one has seen me come in our out and I always wrap and cover the stuff with a moving blanket. One day i will get caught with the tactical shopping cart!

At least it is somewhat of an upgrade from a tactical wheelbarrow...

wrap the gun in a garbage bag, and carry it in a tall garbage can.

eta:
I used to wrap my long guns in blankets, but my wife said it looked like I was carrying a Stinger.
