I have a stainless steel HD barrel for my DPMS Ar15. It's nice cause it's HD and does not get very hot, but it's a bright shiny silver and not to my liking. Is it possible or practical to paint a barrel black? I've read about using high temp paint from a auto parts store but that doesn't sound right to me.
Thanks.

You could just have someone aluminum oxide blast it for you to knock the shine off of it and it will be a flat gray color.  Then if you feel the need to paint you can use Brownells Alumahyde II.  This paint resists most solvents.

AMU shooters do this all the time with muffler or barbecue pit spraypaint.

And using a muffler or bbq paint shouldn't cause any issues for the barrel life or overheating?
