Ok, my friend has a Cobray m-11 frame, that he just bought a semi parts kit for, and I'm trying to help him put it together. I think we got most everything figured out, then ran into a problem. The hammer pin is to large for the hole in the frame. The pin has a large head on one end, then has a large diameter section, followed by a smaller diameter section that the hammer slips onto. Then there is a short section that slips on after the hammer. The pin then goes through the other side of the frame, where it is held by a small wire clip. Is this a newer style of hammer and pin set? If so (or I guess even if not so), should he open up the holes to fit this new hammer and pin set, or not? He would rather not have to put any more money into this than he has to. I've been looking on line, and haven't been able to find any info on his, and any help would be appreciated.

I'm not fully understanding what you are describing. Here are some pics that may be able to help.
hammer assy
assembled hammer
retainer installed

Can you post any pics? Does your hammer pin have multiple steps? Was the frame a factory build or was it built from a flat or by welding sideplates?

Good point, Is this a semi frame? There is a hole in the SMG frame that looks to be in the same place as the hamer pin would be on a semi. I'm not sure if they are the same size or not. It's been a while since I've dealt with a semi auto M11/9.

I believe its a semi frame. THere isn't any "fun hole," though it does have the slot cut out for the FA saftey. It is a Cobray Ducktown marked lower, with 94 stamped before the serial number. I would post pics, but it is my friend's frame, and I don't have access to it. The hammer pin is "stepped." If need be, I can post in the NFA board, but I didn't believe a semi build should go in the NFA board, but if I'm wrong....

I think most of the semi frames have the safety slot cut just like the SMG. I've never seen a stepped hammer pin for one, but I also haven't had a semi in quite some time. How much difference is there between the hole and the pin? A small round file may have to be used to clean up the hole kind of like an AK reciever. Most of those holes were punched when the frame was still a flat, the holes distort a little after the bending process and may need to be hand fitted. As long as the pin looks like it will work and the diameter of the pin is only a few thous. different, I'd say deburr the frame. You may try contacting the person you got the parts from. There are other vendors who sell the parts pretty cheap.

Yea, I think I'll tell him to just suck it up and buy the right pin and hammer. Its more than just a little off. The new pin is quite a bit larger on the ends. Thanks for the info.

I'm sorry I couldn't help you further. You may try contacting Master Piece Arms. Other than MPA, Leinad (Daniel spelled backwards, after he and his wife divorced, which used to be Sylvia and Wayne Daniel, or S.W.D.) is the only other manufacturer of the M11/9 semi that I know of. I have never seen a stepped hammer pin, as large as you describe it, is it a takedown pin? If everything else looks right, just say f@#k it and order the correct parts.

Good luck!

Epic Fail yourself.  He's asking about a semi-auto pistol.

No NFA to see here.
