I'm considering buying a Springfield M1A, but I have a few alternatives. What should I do?
1) Buy M1A and ammo PRO: A new gun, more range/power than my 2 ARs CON: Expensive, I don't have any other .308 rifles so I have to get ammo (if I can find it!) 2) Buy some more 5.56mm ammo and rebarrel my rack-grade M1 Garand PRO: Less money, fixes up a classic, I already have .30-06 ammo CON: End up with a less capable rifle than M1A, hard to mount optics on a Garand 3) Buy a sexy Masada/ACR (if they ever come out) or one of the new AUG look-alikes PRO: A new gun, sexiness, I already have plenty of ammo & magazines that work with it. CON: Unknown future maintenance & reliability 4) Forget a new rifle, buy some more 5.56mm ammo PRO: You can never have enough ammo! CON: Expensive, hard to find, does not increase number of available firearms So what are ya'll thoughts? Also open to other suggestions not listed. |

More ammo and training... Pro... you learn to use properly the 2 AR's you already have... Con... you will become addicted to training classes... Good call, but I've already been to several classes plus I'm ex-LEO...I feel well-trained for the moment. :) Then personally I vote for using your resources for more ammo... unless you can get into the .308 game for cheap... But that is just me... I would rather have less calibers and more ammo. |

Unless you find a deal or just don't have ANY squirreled away, I don't think now is the time to be buying ammo.
Of course everything is expensive now so what the fuck do I know? I more or less satisfied my 308 bug ages ago, and am sitting on a healthy cache of ammo, but I've been playing this game since Clinton jacked the market up. I say more or less, because I'm sitting on one stripped AR10 lower and one AR10 lower awaiting upper parts to be complete. If there's one thing I've found with this hobby, it's that you're never really done. Have you considered a FAL or AR10? |
