I can get a new SCAR for $2,500. I have the money thanks to my tax return.
My question is, would you do it? Why or Why Not? Thanks! |

$2500? You're just showing off that you CAN get one for that kind of price... As if your fun store is waiting around for you to make up your mind about the hottest rifle out there?
Remember: Pics or it didn't happen! No doubt. $2500 SCAR's last about 5 seconds |
| the shop here sells them at 2500 but his waitng list is best described as what he told me the day i asked about buying one " if you put money down on one right now today you wont see your rifle until sometime in 2010, thats how far out im back ordered " this was shortly after the election i have no idea as to what his waiting list is now or what prices hes asking now |

The dealer has 100 or so ordered. $500 gets you on the list. When they come in, $2,000 gets you your rifle. I posted this here instead of GD to try to get real opinions, not this "pics of it didn't happen" hogwash...

if you want it get it, if you dont want it, pass it on to sombody who may want one to use. but please dont add gas to the fire and just buy it to make a quick a quick buck.
theres nothing wrong with doing so, but if people would stop buying up everything in sight just to make a buck off a fellow black rifle shooter gun owners prices would be far better accross the board. once again nothing wrong with it but the attitude of getting one just so sombody eles cant have one and has to either wait or pay the piper is a shitty one to have |

2500 bucks for the gun, the cost of a new optic every 1500-2000 rounds, dealing with dissimilar metals corrision when trying to change that barrel, using a torque wrench to REMOVE screws, destroying the trigger pack first time you decide to change the pistol grip. You would be better off dating a stripper, you would at least have some cool stories to tell after your bankrupt.......

I can get a new SCAR for $2,500. I have the money thanks to my tax return. My question is, would you do it? Why or Why Not? Thanks! Nope. But I've got an AR and a Mini-14, so my 223 semi auto needs are more than fulfilled. If I was going to spend that kind of money on a new gun, I'd get a Springfield M1A. |
|
I should have added this info inthe first post: I do not currantly own a weapon in .223. I do have a CMMG on order, but I have no idea how long it will take to get. I almost have all the accessories I want for the AR (2750 rounds of .223, 30 FDE pmags, FDE MIAD, ASAP, Tan LaRue FUG, EOTech. Still would like to get an FDE MS2, FDE MBUS, FDE CTR, and a 12" rail [DD or LaRue]).
So, given the fact that I have no .223 rifles right now, should I order the SCAR, or try to find an RRA at a local shop (they get middy A3s every few weeks and sell them out in a few hours; they go for $1050)? |
|
Bobapunk - I should tell you to not get the SCAR and to buy the RRA, or maybe an XCR or MSAR....so that I move further up the list. However, I think this is going to be a great rifle. FN has made some very nice rifles and did not go into this as a quick fix type of weapon. I think you should keep to the original plan. Maybe do what I'm doing and pay the SCAR off prior to it actually getting here and then you can look at getting something else. As for accesories? I'd buy mags for it (at least 10) and then not worrry about the stuff until you've purchase what you want. The accesories will always be available and a lot cheaper as the demand comes down.
Who here remembers Aimpoint as about on par with TASCO or Burris. When did their products get so expensive?.............right about the time they got a gov't contract for a 1X red dot OEG. Regards, ~r. |

Everyone is in agreement that the recoil for a piston gun is different than a gas gun correct?
So a Mk 18 is about 6 pounds, but the 10 inch version of the 416 is 7.3 pounds. You have a possible trade off, of enhanced reliability but with more weight. So what happens if you take that piston gun and lighten the weight to make it about say 7 pounds? Do you not think that having less weight to help absorb some of the recoil is not going to cause issues with the optic mounted on the weapon? Especially optics that are direct mounted, as opposed to a tube optic that is mounted in rings and can flex and move with the recoil of the weapon? As to the rest, in the past Operators and Maintenance manuals have been released to the public, you can even find right here on this website what the torque spec for a M16 barrel was back in the 80's But recently all Ops and Maint manuals are limited distro, some not outside of DoD, others only to other Fed Agencies, none to the general public so,,,,,,,,,,,,, When you take that barrel off your SCAR, do you think you can just start undoing bolts? And not just any, the right ones that are not perm attached to the receiver, and if you do get the right ones, how are you going to get it back on properly, do you use rockset, locktight or torque for that suppressor QD flashider? Know the right way to take that pistol grip off without destroying your trigger pack? Its not just having a screwdriver and a set of hands with opposable thumbs Regarding Pmags, if you go in a certain building, on a certain base, in the midwestern US, you might see a Fathead of a guy in Multicam, with a 1911 in a drop leg 6004 holding a SCAR L with a tan Pmag inserted in the mag well, Or so Ive been told Anyway, Im off break and the ice cream machine here at the Dairy Queen needs topped off |

Personally I'd but an XCR... the waiting list probably isn't as long and you save some money to boot. JMHO though. Hell, you could get a complete 5.56 XCR, a 6.8 conversion, and 7.62x39 SBR kit for the price of a SCAR. And it would still be a warmed-over AK from RobArms... |

So you are saying that because the SCAR is too light, the recoil will destroy and optic? Are you serious?? Less weight does mean more transmitted recoil impulse. But I'm not seeing how changing the grip will destroy the trigger pack. I got to FF a prototype back in Fall '07 & I didn't note anything in the lower trigger assy. that would be upset by changing out the grip. |

Anyone know if my Pmags will work withthe SCAR? They are not the new "m" type. From what i gather you need and EMAG from MAGPUL for the SCAR or HK416. I have no experice with this first hand. But MAGPUL advertises the EMAG for the SCAR HK416 and some other euro gun. |

Your dismissal of the XCR shows you know little about it. I know, you don't have to have used it because you are an uber-Army type with 75,000 hours of live-fire time, and only mil-spec can be good, and the XCR didn't beat the SCAR in the trials, and [insert further pontification here], but you call it a warmed-over AK simply because you can't stand that it might be good. No AK has user-changeable barrels. Before you dish on this, remember that the mil-spec SCAR is supposed to have that feature. No AK has a monolithic, forged upper, nor does the SCAR. The XCR does not have trunnions, an AK selector, a flimsy dust cover, or many of the features that make an AK an AK. The Sig 55X series is more an AK than the XCR will ever be. Yes, the XCR has an AK-style piston and bolt, and the full-auto FCG uses a sear mounted forward of the hammer, just like an AK, but that's about it. |

As for the guy in the multi-cams with a 1911 holding a SCAR L.........who the Fuk cares who he is? If he's doing something worthwhile then he would know not to allude to that and the privilege of serving god and country ( read....the family of brothers to your left and right) is enough because anyone not involved just isn't going to "get it" anyway. ~R. The double talk and the innuendo makes me think that you really do need to get back to filling the ice cream machine!

Other than the use of an AK type bolt/ejector and the long stroke operating system, the XCR has nothing in common with the AK47. The XCR is really a Daewoo K2 with a Monolithic / QD barrel upper, AK bolt and improved ergonomics. |

What's in the red is not correct. I've seen plenty of cheap scopes killed by rifles with heavy recoil shot from the shoulder. Another way to verify this is to put a scope loosely in the mount and see what happens. eta: If you watch slomo videos of M4's with ARMS #40 or other spring-loaded sights, you will see the sights wagging back and forth every time the rifle is fired. |
