| Anyone have any info on Colt Sporters? I just bought one for $500.00, It has old Triangle (delta hand guards), A1 upper, no foward assist handle & no ejection lump. It does have bayonet lug. There's a little play between upper and lower at the front pin, which is a screw with a collar on it< never seen that before. Anyway just looking for info and if anyone thinks It would be possible to buy an A2 upper and install it and if so what can of worms would I be opening? Would it even be worth while? I took it to the range, didn't miss abeat shoots great. |

1st post huh? let me be the first to welcome you aboard.
The bad news is you rifle is junk,, send it to me for proper disposal Sounds like you scored an SP-1 at a makes us all so jealous we could puke kind of price. Nothing wrong with it as is. Replacing the upper would diminish its is value, bad idea. Getting an an extra upper so you can switch back and forth is a great idea. Later on, getting an extra lower to with the extra upper is a great idea too and then an extra upper to go with,,,, |

I don't know, that's why I am asking. |

Colt made two model uppers: large pin & small pin.
No clue on which size is which, I'm nowhere near knowledgeable enough to say. Someone will be along shortly to say or you actually should post in the AR-15 section for better answers. This forum is more for the non-black rifle guns, IMO. Good luck! |

I suggest you go to the RETRO forum in the AR-15 and just start reading.
Sounds like you have a nice SP1 from back in the day. The screw-type pin on the front is the OEM norm for that gun and most ARs from Colt until VERY recently. There are adaptors available so that you can use newer "small hole" uppers. As it is, though, the SP1 is a true piece of history and is a VERY fine shooter in it's own right. Once you've chilled in the retro moat for a while, you'll see what I mean. Retro!!! It's the new tacticool!!! |
