Local funshop has 2 of these in right now, 1898 or 1996 marked I think.

Both are under $350. Both are in decent shape. Blue and bore is good, wood is good too.

I was just wondering if this is worth picking one or both of them up. The reason I ask is that their prices are normaly quite high, and after looking on Gunbroker (which I no longer trust as a price guide), this seems to be a good price.

So I thought I would ask the experts here at Arfcom.

Thanks in advance guys.

If they have not been sporterized that is a very good price,

These cannot be in original condition, IMO.

Still, wouldn't be too bad an idea to have one just to say they do.

If they're not sporterized then they're good prices. But 99% of all the Krags I've seen are sporterized.

I just picked up a original 1897 production Model 1896 Carbine for $100.

So sometimes luck follows you.

If by some miracle they ain't sporterized, as you said, GET BOTH!!! Seriously.
These rifles can be made to shoot, and its like pure sex shooting one and working the action.
Here's mine, came from the CMP last year for like $450:

The above target was at 100 yds, first time out with my own reloads. I only had 25 rnds, wasn't used to the sights yet, and I'm a shitty shot, but this rifle can shoot when you put the effort in.

Oh, and btw, the rifle didn't come looking as it does in above pics.

Well, a little update.

Went and looked at them, they were junk.. Bore was horrible on one.. smoothbore and pitted, and on the other one the barrel wasnt pressed into the reciever the whole way, and was crooked at that.

Kinda disappointing, so since I couldnt come home empty handed I picked up an XDM 9

That would explain the $350 price & them not being sporterized, IMO.

Ah, well. Someone will come along & buy them & re-barrel them.
