I purchased an Aimpoint from a fellow at one of the last gunshows here. I don't know anything about them and was showing it to a friend. He is telling me it may be a clone. The aimpoint name is actually embossed into the metal on both sides, not just stenciled on. Can any one tell me anything about how to tell?

That looks pretty real to me, but it might help if you post more pictures.

Yes it is a clone from what I see.  You can tell right away from the mount and also how the Aimpoint is recessed in the site.  You can go onto the optic forum to look at how to spot a fake aimpoint

Anytime they come with that mount they are fake. IIRC real aimpoints don't come with a ring of any kind.

Serial #240944

That is the same serial number that is on most/all of the fakes.

Hope you didn't get taken too badly.

Ouch good catch. Noticed in that first link provided the only fake aimpoint in the pic has that serial number. Good luck. I'd hit the next show and see if you can find the guy. Was it a dealer?

Anything over $40 and you got ripped off.  You can find these any day of the week for $40 including shipping on Ebay.
