Not sure if this is the right place for this.  I have a 788 in a 243 and sometimes after I shoot a round and try to eject it the case stays in the chamber.  Sometimes it takes two tries to get the case out.  It only happens a small percent of the time.  I have not shot reloads yet with it.  The extractor feels very strong still.  The gun is a bolt action.  What do you guys think?  Thanks

The extractor might be chipped.

Since Remington no longer makes this part, you need to go to Brownell's or Midway USA.

788s are quite popular in some circles, but for some reason parts are hard to find.  It's hard to say what is causing your problem without more info.  I have known this to happen in 308s using surplus ammo, but you don't find 243 surplus.  The 788 bolts have been known to have a couple problems ranging from ejector problems to bolt handles breaking off.  To find out what is causing your problem would require more info or most likely looking at it.

What else do you need to know?  It does it with most factory ammo loads and when I do get the case out their are some shiny spots on the side of the case.  I kinda thought it was high pressure just sticking the case in there.

Unless the bolt handle is TIG'ed to the body, it can separate.  The brazing is not strong enough.

0.473" Bolt Face 788's have issues with bolt compression, which initially means case stretch and, eventually, headspace issues.

Avoid firewalling reloads in 0.473" Bolt Face 788's.

Overall, I think that its replacement, the Model 7, is a better carbine.

I think he means loading it HOT.

This.

These are the guys who think that the maximum charges in their reloading manual are the STARTING point for their "special" reloads.
