So I've been reading up on highlighting firearms with everything from crayons to testors model paint. have any of you tried any special methods for highlighting the markings on your firearms? In my case I'm looking to highlight the markings on my USP Tactical, but I can't imagine it would vary much for other firearms unless you have some kind of odd finish... |

i have tried both crayons and paint. crayons work ok. not the best choice though. You have to heat the crayon for best effect (i have found anyway). It looks nice. But getting the excess smears to rub off is a pain. Solvents havent helped me remove the crayola Paint works great. I put it on the markings on k98s, ar15s, aks, psls. I dab it on so it makes a bubble over the marking. let it set for 4 minutes. Gently dab up the excess... leaving a copious amount that still sticks above the marking. Then you let it dry more... but not all the way. I then go over it with a solvent soaked cloth. Gently... i mean gently swipe by swipe remove the excess. Push to hard and you pull the paint out of the marking. With practice you can get enough paint removed to make it flush... I use model paint and have used regular house paint (when i first started) |

Thats what i do. Just be careful and aware of the finish that is on the firearm. Id hate to see you damage it in anyway. Also make sure you remove any wood from the item. Send me a pm if you got anymore questions. Im not a pro but i find it very fun to do... edit... if you im me your email i can send you pics of some of the stuff ive done

I have used these before and they work well: www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=7778&title=LACQUER-STIK~ |
I use lacquer stiks also, probably the best way to do it. I use gold on the blued guns, white on parkerized guns, red for safties. |
