What is the difference between Romy AKs and Yugos? The place I expect to buy one charges over 100 dollars more for the Yugo.

Yugos are usually built on the RPK receiver, which is heavier/stiffer/stronger than the AKM receiver, which the Romy is built on. The Yugo is also built like a freaken tank.

So the Yugo is generally nicer?

Yes. The only downside is that certain parts (stock, handguard, gas tube, possibly others) aren't interchangeable with conventional AK parts.

What about the underfolder vs. the fixed wooden stock? It is just a question of taste? When in doubt get both?

Thats a very subjective question. Both are great AKs. One is light, the other heavy. IMO the yugo is the better rifle, but I like the mill work. Might want to ask your question on the AK side and see what others think.

Yugo AKs are not chrome lined.

Romanians are.  If you fire mil-surp ammo, chrome lined bbl will not turn to sewer pipe.

Yugos are HEAVY.  You will definitely feel it if you tote it any distance.

Yugos are built on USA thicker receivers.  More stiff

Romanians are east block Mil Spec excepting the receiver on WASR which does not have mag dimples

You can't change the stock on an underfolder unless you really like TIG welding. I think fixed stock AKs are more comfortable to shoot, but I plan on also getting an underfolder in the near future.

If you get a regular receiver AK (Romy, US built, etc...) you can change the fixed stock out for a sidefolder, which is just as small as an underfolder, but doesn't look as clean. As you said, you really need to have both.

I had heard something about Romy triggers, but I don't remember if it was good or bad. Is there something unique about the triggers on Romy AKs?

Yep.

My underfolder is the least-used of all my AKs, but I'm glad I have at least one.

The old triggers that century used caused trigger slap.  As I undestand Century is using TAPCO G-2 units now (no slap)
