I know there's been several threads on these, but I don't think I've seen any new information, so I thought I'd ask if anybody's got one yet. I don't know why, but I just find these things dead sexy. An online dealer has the 5.56 Sporters available now, folding stock, ORF reciever, US made barrel and the rest original Israeli parts with no bayo lug for under $800. I really REALLY want one, so unless someone here who has one tells me they're shit, I'll probably be skipping class and working some extra shifts this week so it doesn't hurt my wallet too bad.

There was just a recall done to prevent slam fires done by CAI so the new batch is good there are reports of canted front sites, if so send it back to them to replace.... alot of people bash century for a few bad builds but look at it like this CETME: probably one of the most nitoriuos CAI builds cost $400 comapsre to g3 at 1000+ (BTW my CETME shoots great, just no surplus 308 ammo) FAL R1A1: a good build by CAI mine shoots great looks good $550 compare to 1200+ for a FAL by DSA or others (MY R1A1 shoots about 4 MOA and is a great gun) AKs & RPKs of all sorts for less than $400 most shoot well I have gotten 2 bad pieces here 1 AK Under Folder and one RPK receiver rails bent to hell, also one canted front sight, however who else is doing them for under $700 no body ALL of these problems were quickly fixed by CAI just call & ask, I think the AKs are probably the worst in the quality control dept. Here is the fact customer service is good go thru a dealer and you will be able to fix any problems, people complain about quality and it is not the best however I have never been left out to dry by CAI and never been treated rudely, they do stuff no one else will even consider trying and they do it so that it is affordable to the average buyer on a middle class salary I have my GALIL (Golani) on order thru AIM and should have it in a few days |

I have owned lots of CIA stuff...don't buy from them anymore. In all fairness, I have heard that they will fix their mistakes. However, I have never bought anything yet from them (after 5 rifles) that wouldn't have needed to be sent back except that I fixed them myself. Who wants to hassle with shipping everything back for repair? Buy Better Builds. |
I understand, and agree almost all of the time. The only problem is, with Galil's, you don't have a lot of choices. An Orginal preban in the configuration I'm looking for is over 3K. That's just not an option for me. If I buy one of these, I'm not ignoring the possibility of a return or maybe a trip to a gunsmith, but overall, I'm still well below the cost of an original, for a gun that I will shoot and won't be treated as a safe queen. My .02 cents. |
Sounds like you know what your getting into, I'll warn you though some things can't be fixed. I brought one of there AK's a while back and the receiver was not heat treated all the pin holes walked so badly the gun is unusable. |
