| Where I work, we build industrial sized disposers. We used to use paint and enamel coatings to protect our non-stainless parts. Now, we have switched to powder coating and it lasts long past the life of other coatings. Has anyone ever considered using powder coatings as a gun finish? |

I have powder coated at least a dozen AKs and have acouple of Hk clones in powdercoat. Works great. Not too thick if you know what you are doing. Avoid doing the barrel unless you use hi temp powder (like the kind used for exhaust manifolds, headers etc.) Regular powder on the barrel can scorch if you get it hot enough. Bob Esq. |

I powdercoated a bunch of Barrett rifles when I worked there. A bunch of OD rifles for Holland. White for Norway. Basic black for a few customers. A few coyote brown also. The coating goes on about .0015". The M82A1's had enough clearance that it didn't bother them. I did a few bolt guns for friends also. My personal Marlin 1894S is done in flat black. It has held up great for the last 12 or 13 yrs. I did one of my FAL's in OD also. A few pistols with really tight frame to slide fits had to be lapped back in to get the coating off. Other than that, know how the gun fits and where it needs to have the coating a bit thin at. ETA: I had to give the firearms a new parkerized finish and left dry before coating. Powdercoat doesn't stick to bluing worth a crap. |
