XCR vs. STG556 You can't go wrong either way. For me I'm going with the STG 556 because of the short overall length with retentention of a long rifle barrel that can only be found with bullpups. Great for home defense and great for field use can't beat that. If magazines are a concern you could go with the TPD AXR (AUG) that accepts AR mags that should be available this summer for purchase. |
| Wait, is this for the XCR or the AXR? because i don't get how the XCR "makes you guess where to point", it has iron sights, so I'm guessing you are talking about the TPD... also repost this message in a month or two, when people have actually used the bullpups, because as of now, nobody but Kent and Pete are familiar with either rifle. |
Sounds like you need an AXR...Due out Late June, looks to be just about two weeks after MSAR. Thankfully MSAR cut me some slack and held off delivery so I could catch up.... |

The fact is, XCR has no fixed sights, the AUG has a scope included. You can buy clamp on sights but just like the Sig 556, why not just put on some iron sights just in case something gets lost in the mud. You know what I mean? I also worry about the XCR upper integration with the rails on the forgrip. If that gets damaged (if) would the entire upper need to be replaced? I'm not crazy about that. I like replacement parts on things likely to break or need repair. If you haven't seen the video, check it out. The barrel goes in or out in seconds. That settles it. I'm in on the AUG. That is, unless someone has a reason why the AuG is substandard (doubtful). What is this TPD AXR you speak of? I can't find any info and the TPD website is not yet viewable. Can some lead me to some threads on it? This search engine is not the best. Thanks guys. |
One thing to keep in mind since you and I are on the wrong side of the Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Kentuck, and Missouri borders is how long before either AUG is released. With the Democrats in control in Springfield, you may not have that long. The XCR can be had now. |

Pathetic Aug scope? Pleaseee.....The scope in those are damn nice and not the handycap that many make them out to be. Top quality glass and a donut that also acts as a rangefinder.... Lightinig quick barrel changes that no one can yet match, superb maintainability, proven reliability, better terminal ballistics due to not giving away precious barrel inches to gain compactness, better mags (size wise and now maybe durability), and not enough rails to satisfy even the more hungry gear fairy...... The XCR is nice but for some reason just never did anything for me. To each there own. S.O. |

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7db22b3127cce83e6c5401b0a00000016108AZM2zNo3cNW Here's what I like about the MSAR rails, they can be easily removed when you don't need/want them or they becomes damaged somehow. I can also put my ACOG on it if the stock optics don't stack up. I have to say, this has been very well thought out by Microtech. I'm sure the other rifles are very fine pieces and I don't want anyone to think I'm slighting other products, but the timing was perfect for me. I was ready to buy the XCR when the call came in. The deposit has been placed and ETA is early June for the limited Ed. Black. I'll report back with my impression when it arives (for what it's worth). I haven't been this pumped for a new toy since I bought my first car. |
