I need some help. I want to buy a bolt gun thats has a detachable mag(preferably) and iron sights(a must) I am tempted to get either a .308 Ishapor Enfield, or a #4 enfield. I already have some .303 on hand for my #5. All the decent Mausers seem to have dried up

WHat other options do I have? I want a fairly common caliber like .308 or even .223(but I prefer a bigger round)

Ant thoughts or ideas are wanted, something I can use as a fighting rifle IF necessary

You could try posting this in the C&R forum.

An Ishapore 2a1 might be a good choice, as you mentioned.  Please note that shooting 308 is not advised.  Surplus 7.62x51 NATO only.

A No 4 Mk 2 might be a good choice as well.  There isn't an surplus 303 to speak of but you can get new ammo pretty easily.

Have you considered a M39?  You can get very good shooters for around $200.  Hell, www.gunsnammo.com has antiques even, so no transfer fees.  x54 ammo is here, it's cheap, and it's good.

Honestly I'm a little confused by what you want this for.  Something to put in the closet to shoot zombies?  Something to play with at the range?

edited to add:  I think Wal-Mart sells cheap Rem 700s in 308 winny if you really want that caliber.
