I have a couple of scope questions. I bought a new Remington 700 in .270 with a 22" barrel. I would like to get a new scope for this. I want a good general purpose scope, should I get a 3x9 or 4x12. A 3x9 is the largest magnification I use now. Is it woth the extra for the extra magnification. Most of all my deer hunting would be at 200 yrds or less but I would like to start shooting at extended ranges. Has any one had any experience with the new Simons master series are they still junk? There top of the line Atec is not much cheaper than Leupold or Nikon. Thanks Duane |

You're hunting out to 200 yds and want to go further. Most people would want more than a 4x scope for that. I think a 3x9 is a good choice. Your Remington is a fine rifle in a great hunting caliber, don't waste your time putting a cheap scope on it. In my opinion, you'll find nothing in a new scope that is worth your time for under $200, and that's BARE minimum. Spend more if you can, you won't regret it. Trust me, you'll never regret taking your optics choice seriously. |
