Hi all

Just curious...

I've been looking for latest information about the M16/M4 replacement, but the latest info that I was able to find dated from 2005, saying that the XM8 was cancelled. I was unable to find any current info regarding the program.

Does anybody has any current info about the M16/M4 replacement? How long the M16 and M4 will remain in US service?

I appreciate any information

Thanks in advance

yup project cancelled...General Dynamics bought the rights to the XM-8.  haven't heard much else.  the SCAR program hasn't gone anywhere either.  joint service pistol trials down the tube also. M16/M4 will prob be with us for quite awhile longer.

For me, its gonna be a Masada or XCR

The .mil has shitcanned a lot of projects lately, probably due to the GWOT(which should be incourageing programs IMO) but I have heard that SOCOM is playing around with .40 calibers as opposed to the .45 lately

M16/M4 will not be going anywhere for a long time.

Until they truly develop something ground breaking that surpasses it.

Making a plastic gun with a piston doesn't really matter much to us.

What we will be seeing is improved M16/M4s

I have spent many hours researching different weapons, and it apears that there are no active programs for M16/M4 replacement...for the big army at least.  SOCOM obviously is testing the SCAR, but that is not expected to replace the Army or Marine M16s and M4s *YET*.

for what it's worth, my favorite weapon is the M16/M4, and I think it is the best military system in the world.
