It already is, but not in large numbers.  It will probably be a while until Sigarms is able to get large quantities out there.

There is a current version designed for the casual shooter, allows only the mounting of an optic, and the rail is IIRC Polimer, Polamer ah frack it, Plastic

There is a "professional" (My words)  version with what they are calling the SWAT package, that will be out later this year that has aluminum full length quad rails and BUIS's.

Geeeeeeeez  Thats Pricey, Sig Arms site MSRP 1,299.95 If it is anything like the F2000 or the XCR, the price should start dropping once the initial frenzy starts to taper off.

I got a peak at the dealer reciept from a wholeseller. The 556 was $996. A fair price is $1150-1199. Anything more and your dealer is scamming you

I got two for $1,299 a month or so ago and didn't mind that price at all.  I would have preferred to pay that and get the original 551 hand guards and sights but there is no way I'd be in for the original style rock-in magwell.  I'm thrilled that they didn't just clone the outdated original series.

I am waiting on some type of folding lower with ar mags or the original, that doesn't matter.

it's not a scam if you're agreeing to pay for the rifle and are aware of what a reasonable or even unreasonable price for the rifle is.

It is especially not a scam if the dealer is charging less than MSRP.

also, the rifle may be worth more to one particular buyer than another.

a scam would involve the dealer being deceptive and the buyer would be unaware of some special circumstances surrounding the rifle, such as the seller knowing the rifle is defective, charging any unneccessary fee's (if the buyer pays "special fees" he deserves to be scammed) selling a preowned rifle as "new", etc..

HiBut an Old Timer in lookin at the boards, First Off How many of you Actually Own The XCR, AR-15 @ 556-Sig, And out of those that do do you compare them on weight and function or is it just based on Looks? As an owner of all three and keep my weapons clean freak, I have to say they all have thier Pros and cons, here they are

AR-15 CAR/10.5" HB w/ 5.5" attached Flash Pre Ban
has 12000-15000 rounds through it
-
{3} full bolt and carrier replacements,
Pain to Clean with Full break down

+
Light weight
parts avaliable everywhrere
Cheap mags
can make your own with all custom parts

XCR- 5.56 Light barrel/ folding Stock/ Tasco Scope /front folding grip

- only one place for main hardware,break in {300 rnds}

+ the easyiest weapon to clean, Quad rail, size w/ stock folded smaller than CAR-15
Adjustable gas, bolt and carrier are cool to touch even after 210 rounds as fast as u can pull the trigger w/ barrel smokin.

Sig556

- heaviest out of the three, finnish between the upper and lower, front grip not vented @ bottom

+ Stock Is 6 pos Israel made, bolt and carrier will no come out unless you pull cocking handle, full break down can be done in 5 min but to reassemble you better have an elepahnst memory or read the manual,

havent been to the range in about three weeks and only found this 2 weeks ago,but the neat time I go Im Doing a 100 yrd comparison w/ the dreaded wolf and some raddway ss109 50 rounds each from a rest, will take pics and give groupings.

I have to say, the XCR turned out to be a mighty fine weapon.

In the absence of cool factor like the 55x, the 556 is just another .223 weapon with outdated features at the end of its lifecycle.

The Sig 556 is just short of some decent furniture.  Upgrade it (like you would on your AR) and it is good to go.  This is what mine looks like now...
