I posted this in the hunting section as well, but I think this is probably the better choice

What is a good price on a savage model 99 in .300 savage.

It's from the mid 60s, but is in pristine condition.

I was offered one, and want to know what you guys think is reasonable.. I have the money, but...

Thanks

They are all over the place.  I saw a mint 99 with scope and case go for $450 on gunbroker a while back and i saw a beater 99 missing parts go for 1700 at a local auction.  If you can get into it for under 700 you should be OK.

Define pristine.  Most 99's I've seen in person were modified in some form.  Usually stock modifications, adding a recoil pad etc.

Many M99's had the roll mark on top of the receiver.  Then bubba would D&T right on the roll mark.  I'm not familiar with a 1960's M99.  Savage may have moved the mark by then.

If yours is unaltered or close to it then $450 is a reasonable price.  But as another poster stated, M99 prices are all over the map.

Mine is a 1950 M99-R.  Roll mark is in the side.  Won by my Grandfather in a raffle in 1953?

Depending on the series a 99 can run up into $1k+.
Most are between $350 and $750 in mint condition.

There are a lot of variations and the 99 is gaining collectors attention, keep in mind the 358 Winchester is probably the most desireable of the more common variants.
