I need some of the ARFcom hive-mind advice...

I'm thinking of possibly getting a rifle for my girlfriend for her birthday, which is a little ways off...

Any advice? She's pretty well on the small side and I don't have a huge budget for this project...I was thinking maybe something basic like a 10/22, but any reasonable and relatively inexpensive (ammo cost is also a factor) suggestions would be welcome...trying to keep the initial cost down (including a first box, or brick if it's .22lr or something similarly inexpensive) to under $300, no optics necessary.

Thanks for any ideas, folks!

PS: Commiefornia compliance is a must-have. (damn anti-RKBA nuts...)

There is also the Marlin 60 and 70.  The 10/22 comes in a youth size if she is really that small.  I don't know if the Marlins do as well.

A 10/22 is a great choice for a first rifle. If you can find one a M1 carbine is also a great gun, my wife loves to shoot mine. It will be hard to find one for $300, but not impossible. It is also Kali approved.

My CZ452 has always been a favorite of the ladies.  Handy, well balanced, absolutely no recoil and accurate.

A 10/22 would be a great choice for a first rifle - low recoil, cheap ammo, infinite mod possibilities...

There's a Browning BLR Lightweight .223 Lever Action on www.forthehunt.com that's bid up to $225 with the Reserve met already. You've got 4 hours till it's gone.
BTW... It aint mine ... I just did a quick search, originally for .22 BL-92s.

Stay safe
