I have been thinking about buying a Mini 14, I have never owned one before. Can I get some input on this rifle. Are they worth it at all?

Basically, there is no point in having one.  An AR can be built from new parts for less than $600.  What little price difference remains will be made up in the price of magazines, spare parts and accesories.  The AR will be more accurate and more reliable.

If you want something cheap, reliable and at least as accurate as the Mini-14, buy a SAIGA .223.  They are half the price of a Mini-14 and can be converted at home into a nice AK clone.

There's a good 3 page subject on the mini in this link.

FWIW, I like mine. If you want a Mini get one, but accept it for what it is - it's no AR15.

They're only really worth it if you get a folder for it, dress up like Mr.T and drive around in a black GMC conversion van...

But, I believe that Mr.T himself best summed up the mini-14, and I quote, "I pity the foo!"

Not worth it IMHO. I tried scoping one and off the bench on a sand bag I could only hit a Coca-cola can at 100 yards some of the time. With my AR I never missed. Needless to say I dumped the Mini-14.
