An unusual rifle has appeared at the local gun shop. It appears to be similar to a Beretta BM-59. The trigger group is a Spingfield Armory (the actual government armory, not the commercial concern of the same name) part that has had the floor plate cut away to allow insertion of a 20 round magazine. I do not know if the magazine is the same as that used with the M14. The receiver lacks the M14's charger guides and has been refinished. The finish is a glossy blue black that does not quite cover pitting underneath. The serial number is on the rear of the receiver like that of an M1 rifle. The numbers are faint, as if the refinishing almost wiped them out. The rear sight appears to be that of an early M1 rifle. The butt plate is smooth steel. The only other identifying marks on the weapon are stamped into the small ledge in the stock just to the rear of the receiver. They read as nearly as I can remember: Alpine II Cal. 7.62 NATO Is this a Beretta, a parts mish-mash using Beretta parts, or something else? Is it worth $950.00? Thanks. |

Never heard of one of those. It could be almost anything. You need to ask Dr. Walt. Dennis Jenkins

Thank you. I suspected as much, having barely remembered reading something along those lines once. I had never seen any actual documentation myself. The gun is at the shop on consignment. The owner said that it shoots "real good". I think I will pass on the rifle. |
