to re-barrel a Model 700?  Who makes barrels and are there any books, DVD's etc. that you'd recommend?  I'm thinking of putting a .308 barrel on a 7mm-08.  Will I have to mod the magazine? Thanks.

It requires a lathe, chamber reamer, headspace guages and some knowledge of barrel threading and contouring. Not like an AR15 in any way. Charles the Gunsmith.

Thanks for the reply Charles.  I know that I'll have to ream the chamber to get the correct head space, but nobody offers contoured barrels for the 700?  Thanks again.

Shilen and Brownells have a marketing 'deal' on Shilen Match (2) grade barrels and on LoneStar (3) grade barrels. These are good barrels, just not the top quality (1) Select Match. Anyway, the Match and Lonestars can be had short chambered, pre contoured and threads cut for the standard receiver dimensions. While, they generally work for most applications, on occasion some lathe work and such is required to properly fit them to the receiver. E-mail if any questions. Good luck. Charles.

Yellow jacket, you want a good one? I have a Boots Obermyer .30cal, 5-R blank that'll I'll sell you. It's a Remington "varmint" contour, and would finish out at just about 24". IM me if you want more specifics.
