It's still copper jacketed. Tracer and AP being bad for a barrel is a bunch of BS. I have about 1k of '06 on en blocs for my M1. |
How much have you shot through the Garand? I was told it was machine gun ammo and very different from M2 Ball. Not true? I've got maybe 1k + on '03 strippers in original WWII bandoleers, in the WWII cans. I'm itching to shoot it up. Go for it? What does everyone say? |
rocklock were you watching "Crossing Jordan"? they had AP 30-06 as part of their story line last night. Bob , I geuss you are refering to Jim and Sarah Brady Ad Junky Thanks for all your help that link you sent me sealed the deal . If you ever get a chance to shoot one of these Madsens ...do it . Thanks agian Rocklock....... Still havent figured out what kind of "stripper clips "it takes ??? |
I say save it for a day it might be "needed". If you're just going to plink use some cheap stuff instead. My .02 S.O. |
From what I understand, a lot of GIs in WW2 delinked AP MG ammo and used it in Garands. Amost to the point of exclusivity. I never heard anything about it being dangerous to shoot. Made cover turn into concealment. |

An old Army sarge used to tell me that AP was the only thing he carried thru WWII & Korea. He and his buddy ran across a bank safe in a bombed out building in France, still locked up tight as a drum. They shot at it with a Thompson and his Garand, to no avail. He mentioned that the .45 bullets would hit the safe and just spin. He sent his buddy off to find some AP rounds and he came back with a bazooka and two WP rounds. Before his buddy could be stopped, the bazooka put a nice hole in the side of the safe. All the money in the safe burned up real good. He told me after that, he carried AP everywhere he would go. He also mentioned it would go thru a German Halftrack like butter. His face would light up when he would talk about shooting up half tracks. Sorry for the highjack, just started me thinking. |
