Is it possible to refinish rusted magazines?
Would it be possible to refinish THOSE magazines.
I am a carbine nut and would love to get my hands on a shit load of 'em for cheap.

How does one refinish mags?
Brownells?

Thanks guys - I'm still a bit of a noob.

Dude - those would make great fishing sinkers

You cant refinish if there is only rust

Seriously - just buy a few at SARCO   www.sarcoinc.com/m1c.html

Even if you refinished the outside, the insides would need some work.

GI?  They look like they were dug out of French dirt last week.

Wire brush the worst of the rust off the outside.  Soak 'em in Naval Jelly rust dissolver.  Parkerize mag and  floorplate. blue follower.  Hard to tell what percentage will be salvageable.

The true cost will be in buying new springs.

Indeed, but It would be safe to guess that the minimum bid may be never reached on this auction.

No doubt.  I'd be willing to bet that the reserve is at least $50, if not more.  The mags are salvageable, but it would take a lot of work!

That's what I figured. Maybe If I could see them in person, pick them up and all that, maybe I would spring for them.

But now after thinking about it, and hearing your opinions, I've decided no way.

Oh, yeah. You can have a hay day with those magazines.
Use a brass or nylon wire brush on a drill lubed with remington oil to remove the rust inturnally.
Use a brass wire spining wheel and the same trick to remove the rust exturnally.
Then dip each magazine in acitone and use hopps 9 blueing paste to reblue the exterior ( and interior if you like. Then wipe the excess blueing off and whipe it shiny ( a cloth will do the trick ) and then bake in the oven at 300f for 2 houres to strengthen the finish.
Then if you like, you can spray some black automotive primer on it ( color palace and crylon are recomended ) and repete the oven trick and your mags will be as good as new with a strong and rust resistant finish.
