A friend of mine has a Nornico SKS that he bought missing the gas tube. He bought a gas tube at a gun show, but it does not seem to fit. It will pop into place with some effort, but then the latch will not close. Are there different tubes for differnet makes of SKS? Where can he get one that will work on the Norinco? How much are they?

Might try asking on the sks forum.

I did, with no response. I don't think it gets much traffic.

Just need to file the bevel down some more on the gas tube so the latch will lock.

There are only two different sizes of gas tubes and they are about an inch or so different so if your friend's was the wrong size he'd know it.  What he's seeing is simply the loose tolerances used in these weapons.  I little work with a file and it'll be fine.

BTW, he did he both the tube and the piston, right?

Nope, just the tube.

There's a piston that goes inside the tube.  Won't cycle without it.

He has the piston from the old tube, it was just missing the tube.

Just making sure.  I know they don't work without the piston because I once forget to put it back in after cleaning.

I bought the SKS from my buddy because he didn't want to mess with it any more. I got it for cheap, so now it is my project/headache.
