Guys when I 1st got into shooting I had 2 Marlins, 336C in 30/30 and a 39M 22lr. Shot the hell out of both. Sadly I sold them when I built my house years ago and needed the money. Well the Kids are grown, got the ARs, AK, M1A and 10/22. So Now I'd like to get back into Levers. Looks like I'm gonna take the plunge again! Still want the 22lr but, I see Marlin only makes the 39A with a 24" barrel and I want a carbine like the 39M or maybe a Win. As for something bigger bore a carbine in 357mag. What do you guys have any recommedations? |

I have a Henry lever in .22LR and I love it--you can't beat the price and the action is very smooth. I have had a Marlin in.357--no complaints. I currently have a Winchester trapper in .44mag. I have not shot it alot but so far so good. It is very light and seems slimmer than the Marlin I had. As to which is better, I think it is a toss-up. Go with whichever one you think looks, feels better. Another option are the Rossi levers. They are a Model 92 instead of 94. There is a dealer that works specifically on Rossis. He will check over a new rifle and do an action job etc. then ship it to your FFL. I believe it is Steves Guns, but I am not positive. Go to www.leverguns.com for a ton of levergun info. BruceWayne |

As for the .22 the Marlin is my favorite but in the carbine (as you mentioned) but I have been impressed with the Henry for the money. The Winchester is nice too but for the money I'd rather have a Marlin. I'm not too fond of the Winchester internally. Also the Browning BL-22 is nice if you find one at a good price. Taurus is coming out with a .22 lever that looks interesting too, but haven't seen anything but pictures. In the bigger bores the Marlin 1894 is my favorite (yes, I'm a Marlin fan). The Rossi's are pretty decent for the money too. I much prefer the 92 action to the 94 action for pistol calibers (actually I don't like the 94 action for anything). Some of the Uberti replicas (1892, 1873, 1866 and 1860 Henry) are also worth a look depending on what you want. |
| I love my 16" Win 94. VERY handy little rifle. Only about 5-6lb loaded. Mine is .357 Mag. Plenty powerful for just about anything at not too distant ranges. My only real complaint is the sights. The action could be a little tighter/smoother, and the trigger could be nicer, too. Still a hella handy little rifle. |
