| what other military style rifles have chrome lined bores besides AR's? |
|
I got an original M14 that has one, and a garand that was arsenal re-done in the late fifties ('59 I think IIRC) Also, I got a Colt G.I. 1911A1 with a government (not numbered to the frame but still u.s.g.i.) barrel that's chromed. I got a buddy who says his M1 carbine has one (it's a early war one that has had the post WW2 rework :30 round mag catch, lever safety, adjustable rear sight) I can't confirm that though, could be true, might not be, since I have an almost identicle winchester built one that isn't chromed. I'm sure others more knowledgable will chime in. _________________________________________________ Dirty deeds.....done dirt cheap ![]() |
USGI M1 Garands have never had chrome lined barrels. USGI M1 Carbines have never had chrome lined barrels. All of the "USGI" chrome lined M1 Carbine barrels that were on the market a few years ago were manufactured by Herco and were rejected buy the Govt. I don't know what foreign Govt's have done but The U.S. Govt. has never issued either of these weapons with chrome lined bores. |

I have no doubt that WW2 era garands didn't have chromed bores, but late rebuilds fitted with new barrels (done during the time that the M14s were being built) did get chrome bores, Mine is an arsenal rebuild and it's got a chrome bore, no if ands or buts. It's original,Hell, it came from the CMP o it's not a butchered abortion or something. I also recall come to think of it that some carbines re-barreled around the same time were as well, like faris mentioned. _________________________________________________________ Dirty deeds......done dirt cheap

What are the markings on your chrome lined M1 barrel? Manufacturer, Drawing number date, etc.? |
|
Can't give you the #s on it right now, I'd have to drive back to the farm where I keep most of my collection and get the cosmoline off it to see them. My cousin got one around the same time as my uncle (which is where I got the rifle we're talking about) and it had a chromed bore as well. They're both wartime built springfield armoury rifles and all I can remember is that there is a '59 or '60 on the barrel of mine indicating the rebarrel date (whichever it is, my cousin's got the other one). There are no import marks on either rifle though, and almost no wear on either (they were bought in the 70's I believe) I lucked out though, the one I got doesn't have 7th round stoppages, so I don't have to watch what side the top round is on when I load it. ______________________________________________ Dirty deeds.......done dirt cheap
