For those who have thought about buying a Universal brand M1 Carbine, the one I saw today kept throwing off the rear sight. The bolt also locked up & it had to be banged to get the live rd out.

If there's a bigger POS out there, I don't know what it would be.

Those were always bad news, going back many years.  They used to tear up brass when they did shoot.
Besides a GI carbine, the Plainfield or Iver Johnson were much better clones, if memory serves me.

Friend had one many years ago.  Steel was so soft it literally wore itself out in less than 2000  rounds.  There was visible peening on most of the parts.

I have two of the IJ carbines and one Plainfield. They have mostly U.S. parts on them. All 60s and 70s vintage guns. All work well, no jams with good mags. I tried a couple of the Universal guns. They had the stamped op-rod and two recoil springs under the barrel. They worked o.k. except that the metal showed wear quickly where the rod met the bolt lug. I did not like the bolt hold open latch and the push button safety.
